Choosing Love Over Fear: Embracing God’s Perfect Love (1 John 4:18)
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." – 1 John 4:18 (KSB)
Every day presents a choice between love and fear. Scripture reminds us that perfect love expels fear, because fear is rooted in the expectation of punishment. Yet God has given us not a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind. Many people never experience the love they long for because fear dominates their thoughts and emotions. Choosing love over fear opens the door to transformation, renewal, and divine peace.
Firstly, some people hold a deep fear of health. They wonder what changes wellness might require and become afraid of the responsibility that comes with wholeness. This fear keeps them trapped in sickness, pain, and dysfunction. To truly love health is to identify fully with it without separation. Just as Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one,” we can affirm, “I and health are one.” Scripture supports this truth: “Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” When we embrace health without fear, wholeness begins to manifest.
Secondly, chaos and confusion in relationships often spring from a fear of harmony, joy, and peace. For many, drama and dysfunction feel familiar, even normal. When stillness or peace enters a relationship, fear triggers the expectation that something negative is about to happen. Choosing harmony requires letting go of fear and recognizing that hatred lies beneath it. Loving harmony means becoming one with peace in our interactions, with family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even those whose beliefs differ from ours. Embracing harmony without fear opens the heart to genuine love in all relationships.
Thirdly, many people are afraid of wealth. They fear abundance, success, and the responsibility that comes with prosperity. This fear creates comfort in scarcity, lack, and limitation. However, when we consciously choose to identify with wealth, fear loses its power. Declaring, “I am one with wealth,” and welcoming overflow, increase, and multiple streams of income, breaks the chains of financial fear. Wealth becomes a tool of empowerment instead of anxiety.
Choosing love over fear transforms our thoughts, words, and actions. Love dissolves the limitations fear imposes on our health, our relationships, and our abundance. In choosing love, we align with the prosperity and fullness God promises.
