  40 and Over: Understanding God’s Timing, Preparation, and Purpose "In the 40th year, on the first day of the 11th month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them." – Deuteronomy 1:3    The Book of Deuteronomy centers on reflection, remembrance, and spiritual evaluation. Moses reviews the journey of the children of Israel, recounting how God guided them through every stage of their wilderness experience. Through Moses’ leadership, God delivered the people from Egypt, sustained them in the wilderness, and prepared them for the promised land.    At this point in the story, Moses understands that entry into the promised land will not be permitted.
