  For the Glory of God: Understanding God's Manifested Presence, Purpose, and Intention "And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory has departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken." – 1 Samuel 4:21    Many believers speak about doing things "for the glory of God" or "giving God the glory," but what does that truly mean in practical daily living? In 1 Samuel 4:21, Phinehas's wife gave birth during a season of tremendous loss and transition. As she prepared to leave this earthly life, she named her son Ichabod, declaring that the glory of God had departed from Israel because the Ark of the Covenant had been captured.    In biblical times, the Ark of the Covenant symbolized God's glory among His people.
