The Ultimate Outreach: When God Touches Your Mouth and Puts His Words Within You

   The ultimate outreach is more than meeting physical needs. Community service feeding the hungry, providing clothing to those in need, offering shelter, and helping people through difficult circumstances is important and necessary. However, there is another dimension of outreach that reaches beyond physical assistance. The ultimate outreach occurs when individuals experience God reaching out to them personally.

"Then the Lord reached out to me like a hand, touching my mouth, and said to me, 'I have put my words in your mouth.'" – Jeremiah 1:9

   Jeremiah experienced something deeply personal when God touched his mouth and placed God's words within him. This was not merely an assignment; it was an encounter. Jeremiah discovered that the same God who called him was also present to empower him. God was not simply sending Jeremiah somewhere God was going with him.

   Knowing that God is present within is powerful, but experiencing God's presence upon one's life brings another dimension of awareness. God is above, beside, within, through, before, and behind us. God's presence surrounds us and connects us with divine purpose. When that reality becomes conscious, individuals can begin to experience the ultimate outreach: God reaching into their lives and transforming them from the inside out.

Firstly: God's Hand

   Jeremiah describes God reaching out like a hand and touching his mouth. Although God is Spirit and does not possess a physical hand in the human sense, Jeremiah experienced God's presence in a way that was personal, tangible, comforting, and empowering.

   The hand of God represents divine comfort, strength, guidance, and support. There are moments when individuals may feel inadequate, afraid, uncertain, or unprepared for what is ahead. Yet God's touch reminds them that they do not have to fulfill their assignment through human strength alone.

   God's hand can settle fears and quiet doubts. It can provide the assurance that says, "You are not alone. I am with you." When individuals become conscious of God's presence, they can move forward with greater confidence because their ability is no longer based solely on personal capacity. They are trusting in divine enablement.

   Sometimes people are waiting for someone else to reach out to them when God is already reaching out. The invitation is to become aware of the divine touch that is already present. God's hand can bring comfort to the wounded, strength to the weary, courage to the fearful, and direction to those who are uncertain.

Secondly: My Mouth

   God's hand touched Jeremiah's mouth because the mouth would become the instrument through which the assignment would be expressed. The mouth is powerful. Through the mouth, people communicate thoughts, feelings, beliefs, intentions, encouragement, instruction, praise, and testimony.

   When God touches the mouth, God touches the vehicle of expression. Individuals may have previously spoken from fear, insecurity, frustration, anger, limitation, or past experiences. However, a divine touch can transform the way people communicate.

   Every person has a choice regarding what comes out of their mouth. The mouth can become an instrument of destruction, or it can become an instrument of life. It can magnify problems, or it can magnify God. It can spread fear, or it can release faith. It can repeat negativity, or it can communicate truth.

   Allow your mouth to become an oracle for God. Let praise flow through it. Let thanksgiving flow through it. Let encouragement flow through it. Let wisdom flow through it. Let teaching, testimony, prayer, and words of faith flow through it.

   This does not mean speaking carelessly or claiming that every personal thought is automatically God's word. Rather, it means becoming increasingly conscious of God's presence and allowing one's speech to be aligned with truth, love, wisdom, and the highest and best.

Thirdly: God's Words

   God told Jeremiah, "I have put my words in your mouth." The divine touch was connected to divine communication. Jeremiah was not simply being given something to say; he was being entrusted with a message.

   When God's words become the focus, the atmosphere can change. Instead of continually speaking about the problem, individuals can begin speaking from the truth of God's presence. Instead of allowing fear to dominate the conversation, they can communicate faith. Instead of continually rehearsing disappointment, they can give thanksgiving. Instead of magnifying darkness, they can speak light.

   This is the power of becoming God's mouthpiece. A mouthpiece is not the source of the message; the mouthpiece carries and communicates the message. Likewise, believers are called to remain available to God so that divine wisdom, love, encouragement, correction, and truth can flow through them.

   The words spoken through us should produce life, faith, wisdom, healing, clarity, and transformation. Even when correction is necessary, it should be communicated with love and with pure motives. The goal is not simply to speak more; the goal is to speak what is necessary, helpful, truthful, and aligned with God's purpose.

The Ultimate Outreach Begins Within

   Outreach is often associated with going somewhere to help someone else. Yet Jeremiah's experience reminds us that effective outreach begins with an encounter with God. Before Jeremiah could speak to others, Jeremiah had to experience God's touch.

   There is an important sequence here: God's hand, my mouth, and God's words. God's hand represents divine touch. The mouth represents human availability and expression. God's words represent the message that is ultimately meant to reach the world.

   When these three dimensions come together, individuals become vessels through which God's love and truth can reach others. The person becomes a living expression of divine outreach.

   Perhaps someone needs encouragement today. Perhaps someone needs to hear that they are loved. Perhaps someone needs wisdom concerning a difficult decision. Perhaps someone needs to hear a testimony that gives them hope. Perhaps someone needs a word that challenges them to rise above an old way of thinking.

   The question is not simply, "Who needs help?" The deeper question is, "God, who can You reach through me?"

   God's hand has touched you. Your mouth has purpose. God's words can flow through you. This is the ultimate outreach allowing the presence of God within you to reach someone else through you.
