What Did God Say? Understanding Prayer as Divine Communication

Light shining on a path representing God's guidance and call

"Then the Lord said to Joshua:" – Joshua 20:1

Prayer is more than a religious routine, it is a divine dialogue between you and God. It is a sacred rhythm where you speak and God listens, and just as importantly, God speaks and you listen. In a world filled with noise, opinions, and constant distractions, prayer becomes the spiritual anchor that restores clarity, direction, and peace.

   Firstly: You = Petition
Petition is when you initiate the conversation with God. It is the act of presenting your requests, desires, and concerns before Him. Scripture encourages us to make our requests known, reminding us that God is attentive to every detail of our lives. Petition is not about informing God, it is about aligning your heart with His will.

In moments of uncertainty, stress, or need, petition invites God into your situation. It opens the door for divine intervention and positions you to receive His wisdom and peace.

   Secondly: God = Call
There are moments when God initiates the conversation. This is known as a call, a divine prompting toward a specific action, mindset, or assignment. God may call you to grow, to serve, to study, or to step into a new season of purpose.

Every call requires a response. Whether your answer is yes, no, or “not yet,” your response determines your alignment with God’s will. Learning to recognize His voice ensures that you are not led by circumstances, but by divine instruction.

   Thirdly: Someone Else = Intercession
Intercession occurs when someone else is led to pray for or with you. This is a powerful demonstration of how God moves through community. Often, God will use another person’s prayer to confirm His word, provide encouragement, or bring breakthrough in your life.

These moments of shared prayer are not coincidental, they are divinely orchestrated. Through intercession, God speaks beyond your personal perspective and reveals His will through others who are sensitive to His Spirit.

   Conclusion
Prayer equips us to live not by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. When life becomes overwhelming and voices compete for your attention, the question becomes: What did God say?

By understanding the flow of communication petition, call, and intercession you position yourself to remain in alignment with God. His voice becomes your guide, His word becomes your foundation, and His presence becomes your peace. In every situation, return to what God has spoken, for His word is truly a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.

   Key Prayer Principles:
   1. God = Call
   2. You = Petition
   3. Someone Else = Intercession

📖 Reflection: When was the last time you paused to truly listen for what God is saying instead of only presenting your requests?

💡 Action Step: Set aside intentional quiet time this week to both speak to God and listen for His response without distractions.

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."   Galatians 5:6 (KSB)    With everything going on around us, it's easy to feel lost. Distractions come quickly, disappointments pile up, and discouragement sneaks in. We all face these moments. But even when we get off track, there is a way back and that path is through our faith, principles, and core values.  When you live your life anchored in principles, it gives you a compass for when the road gets unclear. Knowing your vision, your mission, and your core values makes it easier to realign when life feels out of control. But if you don’t know who you are, how can you get back to being your best self? If you don’t know what you stand on, what can you stand up on after a fall?    Clarity of purpose keeps you ...
Why Me? God’s Glory (Romans 8:18) Why? That's a question often in our Souls. Why is this happening to me? Why am I having this experience? Why am I facing this health challenge? There's an answer! Why am I having these relationship challenges? There’s an answer, and it’s the same one. Why am I having this financial challenge? There’s an answer! There’s an answer to every question in your Soul, and the answer is glory. The reason for every experience in your life is so that God can get the glory. The purpose of all our challenges is not to bring us down but to transform us and bring glory to God. Why am I having this test, this trial, this tribulation? So God can get the glory. Why am I experiencing this persecution, this headache, this pain? So, God can get the glory. Why am I witnessing this miracle, sign, or wonder? So, God can get the glory. Why am I having this challenge in my local assembly, in my ministry, in my business, and in my organization? So God can get the...

There’s a Grace on Your Life

There’s a Grace on Your Life "By grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."    Ephesians 2:8 (KSB)    In Ephesians chapter 2, one word stands out repeatedly: grace . But what is grace? Grace is God’s unmerited favor, His love poured out on us, not based on anything we've done or failed to do. It’s not about what we think or don’t think. It’s simply a gift. A beautiful, divine surprise.  Imagine receiving an unexpected bonus at work, you did your job, and suddenly you're given more than you earned. That’s grace. It comes when you least expect it and fills you with joy and wonder. This is how God extends His grace freely, abundantly, and lovingly.  Throughout Ephesians 2, Paul highlights how grace is woven into our salvation. “By grace you are saved” means you didn’t do it yourself. Salvation is the awakening in your spirit to the truth that  you are God's beloved .   ...
