I Will Give It Back to You: The Kingdom Law of Reciprocity
"Our lives for your lives!" the men assured her. "If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land." – Joshua 2:14
Rahab, the harlot, understood a powerful kingdom principle: sowing and reaping. This divine law operates throughout the universe whatever a person sows, that person will reap. In Joshua chapter two, Rahab consciously sowed provision and protection into the lives of the Israelite spies.
She hid them in her house, protected them from the king’s men, spoke strategically to preserve their safety, and guided them toward escape. Rahab acted intentionally, knowing that her actions were seeds and that every seed carries a harvest.
Rahab boldly asked the spies to spare her life, along with the lives of her parents, brothers, sisters, and all who belonged to her when the land was taken just as she had spared them. Both parties experienced blessing because reciprocity flowed in both directions. The red rope in Rahab’s window became a visible sign of her expected harvest: provision and protection for her entire household.
1. Life for Life
Rahab spared the lives of the spies, and they assured her of their lives in return. This exchange reveals a kingdom truth: life given is life returned. When people choose preservation over fear, life responds with life.
2. Kindness for Kindness
The spies acknowledged Rahab’s kindness in opening her home and heart to them. They promised kindness in return, demonstrating that kindness is never wasted. What is sown in compassion is always reaped in compassion.
3. Faithfulness for Faithfulness
Rahab remained faithful to her word, doing exactly as she promised. In response, the spies committed to faithfulness toward her. This mutual agreement reflects a timeless spiritual law: faithfulness given brings faithfulness received.
Conclusion
Sowing and reaping is a kingdom process of divine balance. When thoughts, words, and actions align with the highest and best, blessings flow naturally and multiply. Live intentionally, sow consciously, and watch God return your seed pressed down, shaken together, and running over.
