Emmanuel in Christmas Symbols: Seeing God With Us in Candles, Stockings, and Lights

Emmanuel in Christmas Symbols: Seeing God With Us

"A virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’)." – Matthew 1:23

Emmanuel means God with us. At Christmas, this truth is revealed not only in scripture but also in the symbols surrounding us every day. Candles, stockings, and lights become sacred reminders that God is present in ordinary life, awakening us to divine reality right where we are.

Emmanuel in the Candles

"The spirit of humanity is the candle of the Lord." – Proverbs 20:27

Every candle reveals Emmanuel—God with us. The spirit within each person is the candle of the Lord, reminding us that divine presence lives within the human experience.

Firstly: The Wick—Divine Unlimited Potential. The wick represents divine essence within every person. It affirms: I am divine, and there is no limit to what I can accomplish. When thoughts align with truth (Thinking), words declare truth (Theology), and actions embody truth (Treatment), divine potential is activated. Breathing, prayer, and meditation keep this inner flame alive.

Secondly: The Wax—The Human Condition. Wax represents humanity. Every person is both wick and wax—fully divine and fully human. Strengths coexist with challenges. Jesus modeled this balance, experiencing human emotions without losing divine identity. Embracing both aspects allows authenticity and compassion.

Thirdly: The Match—Awakening to Truth. The match ignites awareness. Spiritual practice melts away pain, disappointment, and limitation. As the flame burns, wax softens and diminishes. Each person becomes responsible for lighting others helping remove what obscures divine potential.

Emmanuel in the Stockings

Stockings symbolize prosperity, abundance, and overflow. They remind us to release lack, scarcity, and limitation. In divine presence, there is no emptiness only fullness. Life becomes not half full or half empty, but running over.

Firstly: It’s Already There. Stockings hang full, never empty. Prosperity already exists in consciousness, waiting to be revealed. Emmanuel—God with us means divine fullness is present now.

Secondly: Hanging Within Reach. Stockings hang low no ladder required. Prosperity is as close as awareness. As one thinks, speaks, and acts in abundance, inner riches manifest outwardly. True wealth flows from the inside out.

Thirdly: Personal and Named. Each stocking bears a name. Divine supply is personal. No one is overlooked. What God has for you is uniquely yours unclaimed gifts, talents, and abundance waiting to be received.

Emmanuel in the Lights

Christmas lights proclaim Emmanuel—God with us. God is in us, through us, above us, and around us. Divine presence shines through every form and expression.

Firstly: Colors Represent Diverse People. Lights come in many colors, representing humanity’s diversity. Every person can shine regardless of background or circumstance. Authenticity allows the light to shine fully.

Secondly: Solid Lights—A Decision to Shine Still. Solid lights shine steadily. Stand firm and bloom where planted. The light within is greater than any darkness.

Thirdly: Flashing Lights—Shining in Motion. Flashing lights move yet still shine. Whether still or moving, light remains light. Divine identity is not situational.

Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world,” and then said, “You are the light of the world.” Let the light shine naturally. Do not prophesy smallness, affirm the great light within.

See Emmanuel in candles, stockings, and lights. Recognize divine presence everywhere. God is with us.

📖 Reflection: Where do you see Emmanuel—God with you—in everyday symbols this season?

💡 Action Step: Light a candle, notice a stocking, or admire the lights today and affirm aloud: “God is with me, and divine light lives through me.”

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."   Galatians 5:6 (KSB)    With everything going on around us, it's easy to feel lost. Distractions come quickly, disappointments pile up, and discouragement sneaks in. We all face these moments. But even when we get off track, there is a way back and that path is through our faith, principles, and core values.  When you live your life anchored in principles, it gives you a compass for when the road gets unclear. Knowing your vision, your mission, and your core values makes it easier to realign when life feels out of control. But if you don’t know who you are, how can you get back to being your best self? If you don’t know what you stand on, what can you stand up on after a fall?    Clarity of purpose keeps you ...

Hidden Treasure: You Are a Vessel, Not Just an Instrument

I AM Not an Instrument. I AM a Vessel “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KSB) Hidden in Plain Sight The image that Paul presents in 2 Corinthians 4 is that of a treasure hidden within an earthen vessel. In the Old Testament, people didn’t have locks, alarm systems, or cameras to protect their valuables. Instead, their belongings were often left exposed, making them vulnerable to thieves and robbers. To safeguard their most valuable treasures, they would hide them in jars of clay—earthen vessels—placing them in plain sight. A thief or robber would never think to look there because it wasn’t an obvious hiding place. Likewise, God has placed something valuable inside of you—a treasure of great worth. Yet, people often fail to see it. You may be right in front of them, but they don’t recognize your gifts, skills, talents, anointing, abilities, or sensitivities. You are hidden in plain sight bec...

Universe Means One Thing: Love

Universe Means One Thing: Love "For all the law is fulfilled in this one word, love: Love your neighbor as yourself."   Galatians 5:14 (KSB)    Sometimes, the word “universe” can feel mysterious even spooky to some. Others think it's irreverent or sacrilegious when used in spiritual conversations. But what if we redefined it? What if “universe” simply meant love? What if it meant God, since God is love?  When we say, “the universe,” we can think of it as pointing to one word love. Just one word. The entire Bible, composed of 66 books and written by over 40 different authors, ultimately speaks to one central theme: love. From beginning to end, this divine book points us toward loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others.  In the Old Testament, God's people had 636 laws civil, ceremonial, and moral. They guided everything from relationships to religious festivals. But then Jesus came and said, “Let me make this simple Love God. Love yourself. L...
