What’s Really Important: Living in God’s Truth (1 Thessalonians 2:6)
"For we were not like many, peddling the word of God for profit. On the contrary, we spoke as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts." – 1 Thessalonians 2:4-6
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica, he reminded them that his ministry team did not hide or distort anything. Instead, they lived with honesty and integrity open, authentic, and free from pretense. God calls us to live the same way: a life rooted in truth that frees us from guilt, shame, and self-condemnation.
Firstly, to honor God
Honoring God means putting Him first in every part of our lives. To love God is to embrace love itself, for God is love. We honor Him by giving the first fruits of our time, talents, and treasures not just including Him in our plans, but making Him the very center of them. Because we are created in His image and likeness, we fulfill our purpose by placing Him as our highest priority and stewarding all we have for His glory.
Secondly, to be true to yourself
Living to please everyone is exhausting and unsustainable. Instead, we are called to live honestly, honoring God first and remaining true to ourselves. People can sense dishonesty, and it damages trust. God desires authenticity so be open, honest, and transparent with Him, yourself, and others. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, will guide you into all truth as you commit to living authentically.
Thirdly, to tell the truth
Begin by telling the truth to God, then to yourself. This practice equips you to speak truthfully to others family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Journaling or writing letters to yourself can be a freeing way to confront your own truth. There is no escape from God’s presence; He waits to hear your heart. When we confess and take responsibility for our actions, healing and restoration follow. A life of truth brings abundance, harmony, health, and wholeness. As we live transparently, new doors open and God’s resources flow into our lives.
In conclusion, the truth truly sets us free. Hidden guilt and shame weigh us down, but God invites us into freedom through honesty and authenticity. By honoring Him as our highest priority, staying true to ourselves, and courageously telling the truth, we experience freedom, healing, and abundance. Relationships are restored when we stop blaming and start owning our actions with honesty. The Spirit of truth empowers us to walk in freedom embrace this life of truth, and step into the fullness God intends for you.
