Behind Closed Doors (Matthew 6:5–8)
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full." Matthew 6:5
True prayer is not for performance; it is for communion. Jesus reminds us that prayer is not about public display but about private devotion, an intimate exchange between the soul and its Creator. When we pray in secret, we invite the presence of God into the deepest places of our hearts.
Firstly, enter your closet. This “closet” is not merely a physical room but a sacred space within your spirit. As a spiritual being, you carry the divine presence within you. Taking time to be still and quiet allows you to step into that inner sanctuary where your heart and God meet in silence and truth.
Secondly, close the door. Closing the door symbolizes eliminating distractions that pull your attention away from God. It means letting go of anxious thoughts, regrets, and worldly noise. Acknowledge what no longer serves your spirit release it and allow the peace of God to fill that space.
Finally, receive the reward. God, who sees in secret, rewards sincere prayer. These rewards are not always material; they are the peace, clarity, and strength that flow from a heart aligned with divine will. Prayer is never wasted; it transforms you from the inside out and makes your life a visible testimony of God’s unseen work.
Behind closed doors, transformation begins. In quiet moments of prayer, we discover that God’s attention is never distant, He meets us in the stillness and rewards our faithfulness openly.
📖 Reflection: Do you have a “closet” moment with God each day? How can you close the door to distractions and open your heart to divine presence?
💡 Action Step: Set aside time today to pray privately. Turn off distractions, breathe deeply, and invite God into your stillness.
