What Are You Going to Do with the Crown? (Revelation 4:10)

"The twenty-four elders fall down before the One who sits on the throne and worship the One who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying…" – Revelation 4:10

   In the book of Revelation, John receives a single unfolding revelation across twenty-two chapters while isolated on the Isle of Patmos. Removed from the noise of everyday life and centered in the presence of God, John is “in the Spirit” when heaven opens. God grants visions and speaks directly, revealing truths that can only be accessed through intentional withdrawal a sacred retreat to focus fully on the Divine.

   One of the recurring symbols throughout Revelation is the crown. The crown represents authority, power, and the right to reign. Yet Revelation 4:10 shows something profound: those who are crowned also know when to bow, when to remove, and when to lay their crowns down. This passage teaches us how humility activates authority and how reverence positions us to reign.  Daily, we bow our heads to place the crown on humbling ourselves before God. This humility activates spiritual authority. When we reverence God and rule ourselves, He entrusts us with greater positioning and influence.

Firstly: Put the Crown On

   Putting on the crown begins with daily consciousness. The crown represents anointed thinking, sound theology, and intentional treatment of oneself and others. Like a crowned king or queen in checkers who can move beyond ordinary limitations, crown consciousness empowers us to advance with confidence and purpose. We bow our heads to acknowledge God as our Source, recognizing everything else as a resource. Our thinking becomes moldable in the hands of God. Our theology affirms, “God has crowned me with glory, honor, strength, and anointing daily.” Our treatment submits ego to divine purpose.

   This posture releases low self-esteem, poor self-image, and lack of self-worth. Scripture reminds us that God exalts those who humble themselves under His mighty hand. Before work, school, ministry, or leadership, we must intentionally put on the crown not moving in personal power alone, but allowing God to crown us as spiritual royalty.

Secondly: Take the Crown Off

   There is also a sacred moment when the crown must come off. In worship, we remove the crown before the throne of God. We lay aside titles, positions, roles, achievements, accolades, education, relationships, possessions, and status symbols. None of these define who we truly are. Our thinking detaches from ego and identity markers. Our theology declares, “These are gifts from God, not my essence.” Our treatment strips away every false covering so we may worship in spirit and in truth.

   The ego resists removal, but voluntary surrender brings renewal. Daily, we take off the crown to reverence God and rule ourselves standing spiritually naked before the Divine for pure communion.

Thirdly: Lay the Crown Down

   Finally, we lay the crown down before the throne in thanksgiving, praise, and worship. This is the Kingdom practice of prayer. Our thinking honors God’s worthiness. Our theology proclaims, “Worthy are You to receive glory, honor, and power.” Our treatment casts the crown down voluntarily without trial or force just as Jesus freely laid down His life.

   God responds to surrendered crowns by adding more jewels rubies, sapphires, emeralds symbols of increased authority, influence, provision, and impact. Promotion comes from God alone. Every act of surrender results in a greater crown. Those who live crowned lives move differently because God Himself accompanies them.

   Humility unlocks abundance and eternal life. When we reverence God and rule ourselves through transformed thinking, theology, and treatment, He positions us to reign. Crowns are renewed daily, and authority increases through worshipful surrender.

đź’ˇ Action Step: Begin each day by consciously putting on the crown through prayer, and end each day by laying it down in worship before God.
