The Power of Let (Colossians 3:15)
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, because you are called to be one body; and be thankful." Colossians 3:15
Little word. Three letters. Tremendous impact: LET. In Genesis 1, God spoke creation into being with this same word—“Let there be light”—and light appeared. That same creative power resides in us because we are made in God’s image and likeness. The Apostle Paul uses this powerful word in Colossians 3, calling the believers in Colossae to embrace what God has already given. Today, we are invited to do the same.
1. Let the Peace of God Rule
Paul writes, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” He does not say, “Force peace” or “Create peace.” Instead, he invites us to allow it. Peace already dwells within us because Christ dwells within us. Jesus said, “My peace I give to you”—an unshakable calm and assurance that all is well. When we allow God’s peace to reign, it guards our hearts and minds, keeping us steady in the storms of life.
"You will keep them in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You." – Isaiah 26:3
2. Let the Word of God Dwell Richly
Paul also says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” The Word is living, active, and transformative. It changes us from the inside out. As we read, study, hear, and meditate on Scripture, it cleanses old ways of thinking and plants new seeds of faith. The psalmist declared, “Your word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” When we let the Word of God work deeply in us, it produces wisdom, strength, and renewal in every area of our lives.
3. Let the Praise Flow
Finally, Paul reminds us to let songs, hymns, and spiritual songs rise from our hearts. Praise opens the door for God’s presence. Worship whether through a joyful song, a quiet melody, or even silence ministers to our souls. Remember how David played the harp and the evil spirit left King Saul? Music carries the power of God’s Spirit. When we let praise flow, it unites us, lifts burdens, and ushers in God’s presence.
Beloved, the power of “LET” is about releasing, not striving. It is about allowing God’s peace, Word, and praise to fill and transform our lives. Will you let Him today?
📖 Reflection: What areas of your life are you striving to control instead of simply letting God’s peace, Word, and praise rule?
💡 Action Step: Choose one area today to surrender. Pray, open Scripture, or lift a song of worship—and let God move.
