The Power of Let: Embracing Peace, Word, and Praise (Colossians 3:15)

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." Colossians 3:15
Such a small word-three letters, yet packed with tremendous power: LET. We first see it in creation: “Let there be light,” and light appeared (Genesis 1). The Creator of the universe formed worlds with that single word. And because we are made in God’s image, we too carry authority in our words. The Apostle Paul uses this same word in Colossians to encourage the church and us today. Let’s look at three powerful ways to embrace the word let.
1. Let the Peace of God Rule
Paul doesn’t say, “Make peace happen.” He says, “Let it happen.” Peace is already within you because God dwells within you. Jesus promised, “My peace I give to you.” This peace is not based on circumstances but on God’s presence. Isaiah reminds us: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on You.” When we allow peace to rule in our hearts, we walk in assurance that all is well, no matter what surrounds us.
2. Let the Word of Christ Dwell Richly
The second let in Colossians 3 is about the Word of God. “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.” God’s Word is living, powerful, and transformative. As we read, study, and meditate, His Word takes root in our hearts and renews our minds. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. When we let the Word do the work, it cleanses, strengthens, and equips us. The Psalmist declared, “Your Word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Let His Word shape your life.
3. Let the Praise Overflow
Paul also reminds us to let praise, worship, and songs rise up in our lives. Music ministers to our souls in powerful ways. David’s harp drove away Saul’s tormenting spirit because he let the music flow. Whether it’s a hymn, a new worship song, or even silent meditation, music draws us closer to God and unites us with others. Praise opens our hearts, shifts our perspective, and ushers us into God’s presence. Let the songs of the Spirit minister to you deeply.
The power of “let” is about allowing God’s peace, Word, and praise to flow freely in our lives. Instead of striving or forcing, we surrender and let God move.
📖 Reflection: Where in your life do you need to stop striving and simply let God’s peace, Word, or praise flow?
💡 Action Step: Choose one area today to intentionally “let go and let God.” Allow His peace, Word, or worship to minister to you.
