Three Types of Prayers (Ephesians 6:18)

"Praying always with all types of prayers, supplication in the Spirit, watching, perseverance, and intercession for all saints;" Ephesians 6:18 KSB

Paul closes out Ephesians chapter 6 by encouraging believers to pray. After describing spiritual warfare against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places, he reminds us to put on the whole armor of God so we can stand strong in battle. He concludes this teaching with a powerful reminder, prayer is essential. Prayer is a two-way communication between you and God. It can happen anytime, anywhere, with anyone. Sometimes you speak, sometimes you listen. Prayer is not limited to words; it includes singing, thanksgiving, journaling, worship, fellowship, and anything that opens communication with God. There are also many postures of prayer-sitting, standing, kneeling, bowing, lying prostrate, or walking. Simply put, there is no wrong way to approach God in prayer.

The Apostle Paul highlights three types of prayer in this passage: Appreciation, Supplication, and Intercession.

1. Prayer of Appreciation

This prayer focuses on thanksgiving, acknowledging what God has done, is doing, and will do. In this prayer, you are not asking for anything but thanking God for everything. Appreciation and gratitude draw more blessings into your life. As Scripture reminds us: "Give thanks in all things, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." When you appreciate health, relationships, or provision, those areas grow and multiply in your life.

2. Prayer of Supplication

Supplication is prayer based on a need. Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Asking God is not about informing Him of your needs, He already knows them. It is about recognizing Him as your Source. When we ask, we acknowledge God as our provider, and we do so with faith that He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.

3. Prayer of Intercession

Intercession is prayer on behalf of others. It multiplies spiritual strength, one may chase a thousand, but two can put ten thousand to flight. To intercede is to stand in the gap, praying with and for others. Jesus Himself intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father, and we too are called to be prayer warriors, lifting up our brothers, sisters, and all of God’s children through intercessory prayer.

📖 Reflection: Which type of prayer—appreciation, supplication, or intercession—do you need to strengthen in your walk with God?

💡 Action Step: Choose one of these prayer types today and practice it intentionally, trusting God to meet you in that moment of prayer.

Why Me? God’s Glory (Romans 8:18) Why? That's a question often in our Souls. Why is this happening to me? Why am I having this experience? Why am I facing this health challenge? There's an answer! Why am I having these relationship challenges? There’s an answer, and it’s the same one. Why am I having this financial challenge? There’s an answer! There’s an answer to every question in your Soul, and the answer is glory. The reason for every experience in your life is so that God can get the glory. The purpose of all our challenges is not to bring us down but to transform us and bring glory to God. Why am I having this test, this trial, this tribulation? So God can get the glory. Why am I experiencing this persecution, this headache, this pain? So, God can get the glory. Why am I witnessing this miracle, sign, or wonder? So, God can get the glory. Why am I having this challenge in my local assembly, in my ministry, in my business, and in my organization? There’s a Grace on Your Life

There’s a Grace on Your Life "By grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."    Ephesians 2:8 (KSB)    In Ephesians chapter 2, one word stands out repeatedly: grace . But what is grace? Grace is God’s unmerited favor, His love poured out on us, not based on anything we've done or failed to do. It’s not about what we think or don’t think. It’s simply a gift. A beautiful, divine surprise.  Imagine receiving an unexpected bonus at work, you did your job, and suddenly you're given more than you earned. That’s grace. It comes when you least expect it and fills you with joy and wonder. This is how God extends His grace freely, abundantly, and lovingly.  Throughout Ephesians 2, Paul highlights how grace is woven into our salvation. “By grace you are saved” means you didn’t do it yourself. Salvation is the awakening in your spirit to the truth that  you are God's beloved .   ...

You Are in God’s Will: How to Receive Your Divine Inheritance

You Are in God’s Will: How to Receive Your Divine Inheritance "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance because we were predestined according to the purpose of God, who works all things after the counsel of Divine Will."  Ephesians 1:11    Affirmation: My health is optimal because it’s God’s will that all of my relationships are harmonious.                                                    Ephesians 1:11 reminds us that we have obtained an inheritance through Christ. If earthly parents and grandparents can leave behind an inheritance of tangible and intangible value land, homes, recipes, wisdom, or even prayer, how much greater is the inheritance from our heavenly Father?  An inheritance implies that someone thought of you before their passing, made intentional plans, and had a desire for your future. Similarly,...
