Living in Alignment with the Holy Spirit: Renew Your Mind, Words, and Motives

Living in Alignment with the Holy Spirit

"Do not grieve the Holy Spirit who has sealed you until the Day of Redemption."  Ephesians 4:30 KSB

Road to sunrise representing realignment and spiritual direction

All of us have experienced loss, it’s part of the human experience. The feelings that come with loss are called grief, sorrow, or mourning. Mourning is the process of handling loss. It may be the loss of a person, a job, or even a cherished possession. Each type of loss carries emotions, and there’s a process we go through to navigate it. When your life has been aligned a certain way and you experience loss, you must realign. Without that person, place, or thing, your life feels off balance like driving a car out of alignment. It pulls in a certain direction, wears you out faster, and keeps you from traveling smoothly. In grief, you need to find your balance again, regain your rhythm, and recover your “mojo.”

Give yourself permission to grieve. Feel your feelings. Give yourself permission to mourn. Scripture reminds us: "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." The Holy Spirit, our Comforter and the Spirit of Truth, will be with you in your grieving process. Ephesians 4:30 says, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit is that tender, feeling aspect of God. We grieve Him when we live out of alignment with our purpose and God’s will for our lives. When you drift, the Holy Spirit calls you back into alignment, into union, and into oneness with God. Your yes to God, along with your spiritual practices, will keep you in alignment. Even Jesus faced the tension of alignment when He prayed, "Let this cup pass from Me." But He kept praying. He kept practicing spiritual disciplines that strengthened His soul, declaring, "Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done."

"Be renewed in the spirit of your mind." – Ephesians 4:23

When you practice spiritual disciplines, your mind stays renewed. Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This means letting go of what is old, worn out, and no longer serving you. You also stay in alignment by keeping your mouth refreshed. Just as physical breath needs freshening, so do our words. Avoid gossip, negativity, and vulgarity. Instead, speak life with Scripture, affirmations, and uplifting words. As Psalm 19:14 says: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."

Finally, stay in alignment by keeping your motives revived. Remember why you serve, why you work, and why you love. Jesus said, "If you love Me, feed My sheep." Love should always be the motive not fame, fortune, or power, but pure love for God, yourself, and others.

   To live in alignment:

  • Keep your mind renewed
  • Keep your mouth refreshed
  • Keep your motives revived

📖 Reflection: What is the latest person, place, or thing that you grieved, and how might God be inviting you back into alignment?

💡 Action Step: Choose one spiritual discipline to renew your mind, refresh your words, or revive your motives this week.

Hidden Treasure: You Are a Vessel, Not Just an Instrument

I AM Not an Instrument. I AM a Vessel “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KSB) Hidden in Plain Sight The image that Paul presents in 2 Corinthians 4 is that of a treasure hidden within an earthen vessel. In the Old Testament, people didn’t have locks, alarm systems, or cameras to protect their valuables. Instead, their belongings were often left exposed, making them vulnerable to thieves and robbers. To safeguard their most valuable treasures, they would hide them in jars of clay—earthen vessels—placing them in plain sight. A thief or robber would never think to look there because it wasn’t an obvious hiding place. Likewise, God has placed something valuable inside of you—a treasure of great worth. Yet, people often fail to see it. You may be right in front of them, but they don’t recognize your gifts, skills, talents, anointing, abilities, or sensitivities. You are hidden in plain sight bec...

Universe Means One Thing: Love

Universe Means One Thing: Love "For all the law is fulfilled in this one word, love: Love your neighbor as yourself."   Galatians 5:14 (KSB)    Sometimes, the word “universe” can feel mysterious even spooky to some. Others think it's irreverent or sacrilegious when used in spiritual conversations. But what if we redefined it? What if “universe” simply meant love? What if it meant God, since God is love?  When we say, “the universe,” we can think of it as pointing to one word love. Just one word. The entire Bible, composed of 66 books and written by over 40 different authors, ultimately speaks to one central theme: love. From beginning to end, this divine book points us toward loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others.  In the Old Testament, God's people had 636 laws civil, ceremonial, and moral. They guided everything from relationships to religious festivals. But then Jesus came and said, “Let me make this simple Love God. Love yourself. L...
The Kingdom is About Growth (Matthew 13:24-30)   The kingdom is about growth, not condemnation, judgment, sin, abomination, transgression, or iniquity. The kingdom of God is about growth. Jesus said it is like wheat and weeds, or "tares," as some versions say. As you grow, once you plant a seed in the ground, you don’t just get what you get; you also get weeds. As you keep growing, you will outgrow any behavior, any way of being, seeing, thinking, speaking, or acting that is not like God; you will outgrow it. Stop trying to pull up the weeds and keep growing. Stop trying to put people out of your life because some of the people you think are weeds are really wheat, and some of the people you feel are wheat might not be. Just keep growing, and it will automatically separate. Jesus said the growth in the kingdom is like a mustard seed. It starts as the smallest seed, but it’s potent. So do not despise the days of small beginnings; keep growing. Don’t compare yourself to a...
