Is Your Praise Transactional or Transformational?

Is Your Praise Transactional or Transformational? Understanding Galatians 1:24

"And they praised God because of me." – Galatians 1:24 (KSB)

In Galatians 1:24, the apostle Paul says, “They praised God because of me.” This powerful declaration points to a truth we often overlook, people praise God for different reasons. As Scripture reminds us, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” But why we praise and how we praise varies greatly. For some, praise is transactional. It’s a spiritual exchange “If I praise God, He’ll bless me. If I don’t, He won’t.” This quid pro quo mindset mimics many earthly relationships we have with family, coworkers, or even friends. We transfer this thinking to our relationship with God, turning worship into a business deal. But the love of God is not conditional. It’s not based on our performance. The Bible says, “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God desires more than a transaction. He desires a relationship. A deep, intimate, authentic relationship built on love, not on exchange.

Some praise God because of transformation. Paul’s testimony from verses 20 to 24 shows us how people glorified God because of the radical change in his life. From persecutor to preacher, from enemy of the church to ambassador of Christ, his story stirred praise. Your testimony can do the same. When people witness your transformation, your deliverance from depression, anxiety, addiction, or despair they glorify the God who turned your life around. When God lifts you from the miry clay, plants your feet on solid ground, and renews your heart and mind, your life becomes a living sermon. The transformation invites others to say, “If God did it for them, He can do it for me too!”

Then, there’s a third type of praise, Transunion. It’s the awareness that you are one with God. This isn’t about a credit report; it’s about spiritual identity. Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one.” When you realize that nothing separates you from God's love, and you begin to walk in union with His Spirit, your life becomes a praise. Your thoughts align with His thoughts. Your heart beats with His heart. The Bible says, “Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation leads to Transunion. When you understand that you and God are not separate, but united through Christ, your praise shifts from desperation to declaration.

So, why do you praise God? Is it for what He gives? For how He’s changed you? Or because you’ve come to know that you are one with Him? Whatever the reason, let your praise be real. Let it flow from relationship, not just from ritual. God is not a vending machine, He’s your Father, your Redeemer, your Companion, and your Source. I praise God today because my being has changed. My way of thinking, speaking, seeing, and doing has been transformed. God is taking me from faith to faith, from glory to glory, and from strength to strength. Hallelujah!

"Be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." – Romans 12:2

As you reflect on Galatians 1:24, ask yourself: What kind of praise are you offering today? Transactional, transformational, or Transunion?

📖 Reflection: Which of the three types of praise transaction, transformation, or Transunion best describes your relationship with God right now?

💡 Action Step: Share your testimony with someone this week and give God praise for the transformation He’s done in your life.

Why Me? God’s Glory (Romans 8:18) Why? That's a question often in our Souls. Why is this happening to me? Why am I having this experience? Why am I facing this health challenge? There's an answer! Why am I having these relationship challenges? There’s an answer, and it’s the same one. Why am I having this financial challenge? There’s an answer! There’s an answer to every question in your Soul, and the answer is glory. The reason for every experience in your life is so that God can get the glory. The purpose of all our challenges is not to bring us down but to transform us and bring glory to God. Why am I having this test, this trial, this tribulation? So God can get the glory. Why am I experiencing this persecution, this headache, this pain? So, God can get the glory. Why am I witnessing this miracle, sign, or wonder? So, God can get the glory. Why am I having this challenge in my local assembly, in my ministry, in my business, and in my organization? So God can get the...
The Sacred Sunday Posture:  Kneeling “ A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees; if you are willing, you can make me clean (Mark 1:40).” In addition to bowing your heads and closing your eyes, many people learn to “get on your knees and pray.” Often, it’s at night before going to sleep. Parents instruct their children to kneel on the side of the bed and say their prayers. Perhaps you have fond memories of kneeling and reciting the Lord’s Prayer or the 23 rd Psalm. Or maybe you were taught, like me, “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake. I pray the Lord, my soul, to take. God bless mommy, daddy...” Kneeling is a physical way to revere God as your Creator and remember that God is your Source. “Know that it is the Lord, who is God. It is he that has made us and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture (Psalm 100:3).” Without reverencing and ...

Hidden Treasure: You Are a Vessel, Not Just an Instrument

I AM Not an Instrument. I AM a Vessel “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KSB) Hidden in Plain Sight The image that Paul presents in 2 Corinthians 4 is that of a treasure hidden within an earthen vessel. In the Old Testament, people didn’t have locks, alarm systems, or cameras to protect their valuables. Instead, their belongings were often left exposed, making them vulnerable to thieves and robbers. To safeguard their most valuable treasures, they would hide them in jars of clay—earthen vessels—placing them in plain sight. A thief or robber would never think to look there because it wasn’t an obvious hiding place. Likewise, God has placed something valuable inside of you—a treasure of great worth. Yet, people often fail to see it. You may be right in front of them, but they don’t recognize your gifts, skills, talents, anointing, abilities, or sensitivities. You are hidden in plain sight bec...
