Say My Name (Philippians 2:5–11)

Say My Name (Philippians 2:5–11)

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." – Philippians 2:5–11

Names carry incredible spiritual depth. They represent far more than combinations of letters, they embody identity, character, purpose, and destiny. Philippians 2:5–11 reveals that the name of Jesus is exalted above every name because it reflects the fullness of His humility, obedience, divine authority, and the mind that He modeled for believers. Understanding the significance of names helps us honor both Christ’s identity and our own.

First: Your birth name is foundational. In Scripture, names often expressed prophecy, purpose, or personal story. Jacob’s name reflected his struggle, Leah’s children carried names tied to her emotions and prayers, and Abraham’s name was transformed to reflect his divine calling as a “father of many nations.” In the same way, your given name is not accidental. It is connected to your lineage, personality, and purpose. Even if your name’s meaning is unclear, you have the authority to assign one, choosing a meaning that aligns with your values, mission, and God-given identity.

Second: Abbreviations require awareness. Shortened names whether affectionate or convenient should never be assumed without permission. When someone abbreviates your name without consent, it can symbolically reduce the honor and authority carried in your full name. Your name represents your essence. You have the right to affirm, correct, or reject how people speak it. Your name deserves to be spoken with the dignity it commands.

Third: Nicknames reflect relationship but must honor identity. Nicknames often arise from closeness, humor, or memorable experiences. Some uplift, while others diminish. If a nickname chips away at your confidence, if it “nicks” your identity it is appropriate to release it. A nickname should enhance your sense of self, not undermine it. You have authority over how you are addressed, and it is spiritually healthy to insist on names that reflect your worth.

Understanding the dimensions of your name, birth name, abbreviations, and nicknames allows you to fully appreciate the power God has placed in your identity. Names symbolize existence, value, and divine intention. Treating names with reverence aligns with Paul’s teaching to adopt the mind of Christ, whose humility and obedience earned a name above every name.

When you call on the name of Jesus, do so consciously. His name means Savior and Lord revealing divine humility, sacrificial obedience, and supreme authority. Speaking His name is not ritual; it is a recognition of who He is and what He embodies. Likewise, honoring your own name is part of honoring the identity God placed within you.

Therefore, optimize your name. Know its meaning. Set boundaries around how others use it. Uphold the dignity built into it. Your name reflects your character, your calling, and your divine destiny.

📖 Reflection: What does your name mean to you, and how is God inviting you to honor it more fully?

💡 Action Step: Look up or define the meaning of your name today. Speak it aloud with intention, declaring the identity and purpose God has placed within you.

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement

Refocus Your Faith: How to Overcome Distraction, Disappointment, and Discouragement "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."   Galatians 5:6 (KSB)    With everything going on around us, it's easy to feel lost. Distractions come quickly, disappointments pile up, and discouragement sneaks in. We all face these moments. But even when we get off track, there is a way back and that path is through our faith, principles, and core values.  When you live your life anchored in principles, it gives you a compass for when the road gets unclear. Knowing your vision, your mission, and your core values makes it easier to realign when life feels out of control. But if you don’t know who you are, how can you get back to being your best self? If you don’t know what you stand on, what can you stand up on after a fall?    Clarity of purpose keeps you ...

Universe Means One Thing: Love

Universe Means One Thing: Love "For all the law is fulfilled in this one word, love: Love your neighbor as yourself."   Galatians 5:14 (KSB)    Sometimes, the word “universe” can feel mysterious even spooky to some. Others think it's irreverent or sacrilegious when used in spiritual conversations. But what if we redefined it? What if “universe” simply meant love? What if it meant God, since God is love?  When we say, “the universe,” we can think of it as pointing to one word love. Just one word. The entire Bible, composed of 66 books and written by over 40 different authors, ultimately speaks to one central theme: love. From beginning to end, this divine book points us toward loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others.  In the Old Testament, God's people had 636 laws civil, ceremonial, and moral. They guided everything from relationships to religious festivals. But then Jesus came and said, “Let me make this simple Love God. Love yourself. L...

Hidden Treasure: You Are a Vessel, Not Just an Instrument

I AM Not an Instrument. I AM a Vessel “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KSB) Hidden in Plain Sight The image that Paul presents in 2 Corinthians 4 is that of a treasure hidden within an earthen vessel. In the Old Testament, people didn’t have locks, alarm systems, or cameras to protect their valuables. Instead, their belongings were often left exposed, making them vulnerable to thieves and robbers. To safeguard their most valuable treasures, they would hide them in jars of clay—earthen vessels—placing them in plain sight. A thief or robber would never think to look there because it wasn’t an obvious hiding place. Likewise, God has placed something valuable inside of you—a treasure of great worth. Yet, people often fail to see it. You may be right in front of them, but they don’t recognize your gifts, skills, talents, anointing, abilities, or sensitivities. You are hidden in plain sight bec...
