What's Going to Last? Understanding the Eternal Power of Words (Matthew 24:35)
What’s Going to
Last? (Matthew 24:35)
My question for today is: what’s going to last forever? A lot of things
that we place great emphasis on are only temporary and have no eternal value.
They are not everlasting; they are just temporary. As the song says,
"Build your hopes on things eternal." The things we can see are
temporary, but the things we cannot see are everlasting. Jesus said to them,
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."
So, even heaven is temporary. I know people talk about the walls of jasper, the
streets of gold, and the crystal sea, but Jesus said heaven is temporary. Scripture
speaks of an old heaven and a new heaven if there's an old one and a new one,
it means heaven must be temporary. Many times, people put all their energy into
dying and going to heaven, or they focus on the belief that when Jesus returns,
we'll go to heaven.
But heaven is not everlasting; it will pass away because heaven is a
physical place, and anything physical will eventually pass away. Not only did
Jesus say heaven would pass away, but the earth would also pass away. The earth
is a physical place. Despite the beauty of the earth the flowers, trees,
oceans, landscapes, and mountains it is still temporary. It is physical and
will eventually pass away. Anything you can see with your eyes, feel with your
hands, smell with your nose, taste with your mouth, or hear with your ears is
temporary. It will pass away. But Jesus said that what won’t pass away are His
words. Words are spiritual.
So, I’m telling you: words are eternal. Words are everlasting. Be careful
with the words that come out of your mouth because you can’t take them back
once spoken. Words are spiritual, and you enter the spiritual realm by telling
them. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love
it will eat its fruit." So, pay attention to what you’re saying today. Are
the words you’re speaking building people up, or are they tearing them down? Do
you want the words you speak to last forever? Be conscious of what you are
saying because by our words, we are justified, and by our words, we are
condemned. The Word of God framed the world.
Even when our loved ones transition, they don’t truly pass away because
we still have their words—we still have what they said in our hearts and minds.
Words will never pass away because they are spiritual. The words I’m speaking
right now are spiritual.
